Weeds
In 2016, I got an opportunity to rent a cultivation plot in a community cultivation area in a low-income district Ersboda in Umeå. Cultivation in this area is for many a matter of expanding the household cash and make life work. But it is also a social interaction that creates its very own community. When the tool shed burned down in early April, the municipality would not help to replace the wheelbarrows and grips of the fifty lot owners. At the same time, millions were invested in a park in the city centre. The hierarchies were thus very clearly demonstrated
Classification and grading. What, who and which are valuable? Who are not? What we call weeds grew on my plot. Fantastic plants with strength, beauty and the ability to survive in miserable conditions.
